Talisman Pendants
Talisman boxes contain written verses of the Quran to
protect the wearer, to give strength or to ensure
fertility. At the age of 17, a Tuareg girl receives from her
mother a tcherot and a khomissar pendant (see above) as part
of her ascension into womanhood. They are also worn by men
in certain Tuareg tribes usually affixed to their turban or
around the neck.
