This is a
shamans drum handle from Western Nepal. The design structure
is based on the purbu which is a ritual wooden dagger used
in ceremonies to drive of evil spirits. On the top are four
faces looking toward the four cardinal points, the bottom is
in the the form of a Naga or serpent. Himalayan tribal art
often displays symbolism from three overlapping religious
traditions; Animist, Hindu and Buhddist. Measures
approximately 13" tall.
