charming gurunsi antelope shrine mask

Masks such as
this were not danced by the Gurunsi but placed in a shrine
and used for warding of negative forces. The antelope is a
totemic animal associated with the myths of the founding of
the tribe. Black sooty patina, good condition. Measures 10"
tall. Burkina faso.
