The Tumbwe
people live next to lake Tanganyika in Eastern Zaire. They
have as their neighbors the Tabwa to the south and the Hemba
to the west. These are definitely old tribally used figures
with excellent patina. The male bears a particular
resemblance to a Songye figure, with the conical head.
There are small holes scooped out of the top of the heads
for the insertion of magical substances. Small figures such
as these were used in divination rituals and are handled
frequently. Condition very good. Estimated age: misd20th
